Mekong has been on my wishlist longer than most other restaurants. So, one fine evening, many months later, I was here for dinner, thirty-seven floors up. Well, I wouldn't say it was the most magical of meals, but I did relish the meal and experience. I was to have a Six Course Set Menu. The ambiance is stunning, five star standards by all means though the dim lighting is not the best for mobile food photography for a dinner meal. The staff was very courteous, very genuine service, the food arrived fairly quickly. On request, they were kind enough to give us a seat by the window although the table was for a larger number of guests. Getting down to the food. Course 1 comprised of Boneless Chicken in Chili Bean Paste and Vegetable Spring Rolls with House Sweet Chili Sauce. I really liked liked both appetizers, specially the chicken and the barbecue accompaniment that came along with it. Course 2 was just dimsum. Two types: Pan Fried Chicken Ge Tei and the Steamed Chicken and Shrimp Sui Mai. I really liked how the Ge Tei was presented, with a little crisp at the back of it. Both dumplings were a bit bland but the accompaniments served along with it, make up for the missing taste. Course 3 was my most favourite course of the entire meal. A nice chilly evening was mellowed down with some warm, flavorsome Tom Kha soup. Course 4 and Course 5 were our mains. We called for Boneless Chicken in Sweet Basil and Chilies, Steamed Fish in Black Bean Sauce with Vietnames Fried Rice with Mixed Vegetables Wrapped in Lotus Leaf and Wok Fried Noodles with Mixed Vegetables. I particularly fancied the chicken because it was so succulent and the thick, flavorful gravy was great with the Vietnamese Fried Rice. Course 6...desserts. Roasted Banana with Sago Pearls, Coconut Milk and Vanilla Ice Cream. Honestly, I underestimated this dessert. There were very few banana slices in it but I really relished the subtle taste of pandan. It reminded me of my trip to Thailand. The other dessert was Chocolate Mud Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream, a very simple dessert, nothing too fancy. More than the food at Mekong, I enjoyed the brilliant ambiance, the service and the view from thirty-seven floors above ground level. I've seen pictures but I want to see for myself what it looks like in the daytime, the restaurant as well as the view from above. I will be back to St. Regis definitely, Seven Kitchens is on my wishlist as well.

Warm and amiable service with remarkable views of the city and great cocktails. Although the food could be a lot better.
